1.  USA Hockey Special Hockey Classic in Chicago -- Registration Deadline is October 1st

MSH is considering sending a team (maybe 2) to the USA Hockey Special Hockey Classic on November 17th – 19th.  A little more information can be found here:  https://myevents.usahockey.com/2023-usa-hockey-special-hockey-classic-

Please read this information to know and understand the expectations:

  • All players attending must be completely registered for the 2023-2024 season with MSH by October 1st (including SafeSport).
  • Each player/family will be responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from Chicago, as well as all transportation while there.   MSH will NOT be providing a bus to this event.
  • All meals, schedules, and any other travel arrangements will need to be coordinated by the player/family.  There will not be an assigned MSH trip coordinator at this event.
  • All players and coaches are required to stay at a specific hotel, more information on this will be coming.  Hotel costs are likely around $200 per night.
  • MSH will NOT be providing a travel coordinator, including itinerary.  Everyone is on their own.
  • The level of team play will depend on who is interested in traveling.
  • Any player that requires 1-on-1 assistance on the bench or ice MUST provide a completely registered volunteer (2023-2024 season, including SafeSport and Background check).  This volunteer must be fully registered by October 1st.
  • Player and volunteer conduct is very important.  You are representing MSH at this event.  Anyone that cannot comply with this expectation should not attend.
  • MSH will not know the game schedule until early November.  Expect to play all 3 days.  Teams may have 4 games that weekend, we do not know for sure, but assume 3 games are guaranteed.
  • Players committed to playing at this event must fill out the registration (see link below).  The cost to participate is $100 plus credit card processing fees.  This covers team registration and coach travel expenses.  This fee is not refundable.  Once a player is registered, they are committing to attend the event.
  • If we don’t have enough players to form a team, the registration costs will be refunded.  If we have too many players interested in traveling, we may have to do a drawing to select participants.
  • Registration deadline is on Sunday, October 1st -- NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

2.  Player and Volunteer Registration Open!

Player and volunteer registration is open for the 2023-24 season!  Follow all the steps in the registration pages to complete your registration.  Please read the registration page carefully.  The registration page contains a lot of important information.

Player registration:  https://www.mnspecialhockey.org/playerregistration

Volunteer registration:  https://www.mnspecialhockey.org/coachesapply

Important items:

-  For the first time since 2006, MN Special Hockey has slightly increased its player registration fees to $125. This increase helps MN Special Hockey's continued rising costs of jerseys, ice time, transportation, and many other costs incurred throughout the season.  There is a section in the player registration to complete if a player requires financial assistance with the registration fee.

-  Replacement jersey costs are $65.

-  Replacement and new jerseys (first order) have been sent to the manufacturer.  MSH does not know when the next order will be completed but will likely be in January.

-  Replacement sock costs are $13 – Green and White ones are available for purchase in the registration.  The first sock order was already sent to the manufacturer.  MSH does not know when the next order will be completed, but will likely be in January.

-  If you are a player born in or before 2006 you must have your SafeSport Training or Accommodation completed by October 15th in order to participate in the first practice!

-  All coach and volunteer requirements (including Safesport training and background checks) must be completed by October 15th in order to participate in the first practice!
