Coach/Volunteer Application Open

ALL coach and volunteer registration requirements must be completed by October 15th in order to participate in the first practice!

  • Youth Volunteers (born after 2006)
    1.  MN Special Hockey registration
  • Adult Volunteers (born in or before 2006)
    1. USA Hockey registration
    2.  MN Special Hockey registration
    3. Background check verified (if at least 18 years old)
    4. SafeSport training completed

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE SECTION!

The number of steps required to complete a MN Special Hockey volunteer application depends on the volunteer age.   Each is explained below.  Please read the information and click the BIG buttons to complete each step.

  1. USA Hockey Registration - 

    Volunteers who are 18 and older must complete this step. 

    Please register as a Volunteer (free) unless you are a currently a certified coach with MN Special Hockey.  If you are interested in becoming a certified coach, please contact Amanda Reed (see below).

    Look for an email receipt once this is completed.

  2. Minnesota Special Hockey Registration -
    Everyone must complete this step.  Look for an email receipt once this is completed.
     
  3. Background Check -
    This is required every other year for volunteers 18 years old or older. 
     
  4. SafeSport Training/Refresher -
    This is required for volunteers who were born in or before 2006.
     

Note: Volunteers under 18 years old do not need to complete this step and should go directly to the next step. 

Each Coach/Volunteer over the age of 18 must register first with USA Hockey and receive a confirmation number for the upcoming hockey season.  Once you have this confirmation number, SAVE your confirmation, then return to this page to complete the MN Special Hockey Registration Process.

All Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches must register as coaches and complete the coaching certified training.  All other on-ice volunteers can register as volunteers (no fee) and are not required to complete the coaches training. 

Note: All coaches and volunteers must complete this step. 

  • You must create a Sports Engine Account or login if you already have one. 
  • Once your application is complete, you will receive a confirmation email from MN Special Hockey.

Note: Volunteers under 18 years old do not need to complete this step and should go directly to the next step

USA Hockey requires background screening every 2 years for all coaches and volunteers 18 years of age and older.  The cost to complete this screening is $30.

If you are not due to get screened, this site will tell you as you are entering the information.  If the USA Hockey "Self Registration ID Number provided by your Organization" is not filled in please enter: 35615801.

MSH will reimburse the $30 screening as long as a receipt is provided.  A receipt is emailed after the screening forms are completed and the fees are paid.  In order to get reimbursed you must complete the following:

  • Forward your email receipt to Linda Rogentine at:  linda.rogentine@mnspecialhockey.org
  • Include your name and address of where to send the reimbursement.

Note: Volunteers that were born in 2007 or later do not need to complete this step. 

USA Hockey is requires SafeSport Training for all volunteers born in or before 2006.  All Coaches/Volunteers must complete this a week before getting on the ice.

Everyone will have at least one refresher course to take each year.  If you do not see a course listed, contact memberservices@usahockey.org with your name and USA Hockey confirmation number.

How Will I Know if My Application Has Been Accepted?

Prior to the start of the season, you will receive an email from our volunteer coordinator letting you know if your application has been accepted and team assignment.  Number of applications accepted is based on the needs of each team and is determined once registration is near completion at the end of October.
