YOUTH AND HIGH SCHOOL TEAM VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Each year, we receive many requests for typical team volunteering with our teams. In the past, we have often times invited these teams to join us during our practice.

Unfortunately, often times when these events occur during our practice it becomes a scrimmage.  While we love to have the opportunity to educate others about our skaters and competing in sports with individuals with disabilities, it is difficult for our teams to give up one of their practices. As a result we have come up with a program that will give teams an opportunity to volunteer and us to benefit from the experience.

OPTION 1: Times outside of MN Special Hockey Ice Time:

Volunteering team participate in:

  1. “disability awareness” training prior to event

  2. Team purchases and provide ice time.

  3. If they do not have ice time available, team would donate a  minimum of $300

  4. ice is to be scheduled outside of special hockey scheduled time.

OPTION 2: At MSH Coaches discretion teams join the MSH practice:

This can only occur during 1 MSH practice per season per team - Youth or HS team would need to provide the following to be approved:

  1. Youth/HS Skaters would need to participate in “disability awareness” prior to event

  2. Youth/HS coaches must plan station based practice where all stations must be able to adjust to our A, B, and C level skaters

  3. Coaches are responsible for team involvement in practice, skaters should participate in stations side by side our MSH skaters. Skaters who are distracting and not "volunteering" will be asked to volunteer, or cheer on the skaters from the sidelines

  4. Practice and consist of NO MORE THAN 10 min of scrimmaging

OPTION 3: Attend a MN Special Hockey game or jamboree (events are posted on team pages):

  1. Help by greeting and directing visiting players, make signs for cheering, organize positive group cheering during the event.

  2. Connect with home team prior to the event.  There may be an opportunity to run the clock, play music, announce players, or referee.
