2. USA Disabled Hockey Festival -- deadline to register is 12/23

The 2023 USA Disabled Hockey Festival will be held March 30th - April 2nd in St Louis, Missouri.

Minnesota Special Hockey will be sending 3 teams to the Festival in Missouri this year. The bus (or buses) will likely depart Wednesday, March 29th (the time depends on if or when MSH plays on Thursday). The locations of departures are to be determined.  MSH will leave the Festival early Sunday morning, April 2nd.

Players under 18 are required to travel with a parent or legal guardian or someone that the parent agrees is responsible for the player.  Players over 18 are not required to travel with a legal guardian, but it is highly recommended and encouraged.  Players that do not travel with anyone will need to agree to follow the MN Special Hockey Player Code of Conduct and fill out the travel agreement that will be available at a later date.  There are NO CHAPERONES, only organization leaders to ensure overall safety and responsible behavior to well represent MN Special Hockey.  If a player is over 18 and has a legal guardian, the player and legal guardian are required to sign the player agreement and provide emergency contact information.

MN Special Hockey will be sending A, B and C teams to the Festival this year.  Players will be assigned to a team based on their ability. The coaches joining us will help assign players to teams.  MSH tends to have quite a few players that attend these festivals so please be aware that the ice time is very limited and MSH will do its best to give everyone as much and equal ice time as possible.

COST:

Registration: This year MN Special Hockey will be charging a $50 non-refundable fee at the time of registration. This fee will be used to cover tournament registration and meal expenses.  An additional small fee will be collected during the Festival from all individuals traveling with our athletes for the banquet held by MN Special Hockey.

Hotel: Three nights of hotel stay is approx. $140 + tax per night.  Players can coordinate with each other to share rooms. Once you register for this event, you will be emailed the information to book your hotel.  Everyone is required to stay in the same hotel, per Festival policies.

Transportation:  There is no cost for the player and one parent/guardian to ride the bus.  Additional riders will be charged $150 to ride the bus.  If you choose to fly and want to ride the bus once in St Louis, a small fee will be charged per rider.  This option is not guaranteed and is only available if there is room on the bus.

Meals: Some of the meals will be provided by MN Special Hockey.  Most meals will be the player's/guardian's responsibility.

ATHLETES:  Please fill out the registration form (athlete only) here: Welcome | USA Hockey Festival - 2023 | Minnesota Special Hockey (sportngin.com).  The deadline to register is December 23rd.

If you go to USA Hockey and register you will NOT be registered with MN Special Hockey and you will not be able to attend with MN Special Hockey. You MUST use the link above.  Please do not plan to travel with MN Special Hockey unless you can commit.  MN Special Hockey pays for the team registration and if a player registers and then cancels, it is a problem with scheduling (hotels, bus, registration) and the game scheduling for the tournament.

MN Special Hockey is not requiring any volunteers to register.  If you are a coach and would like to attend, please reach out to Ti a Graves directly at:
tia.graves@mnspecialhockey.org

The contact person for this event is Tia Graves.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tia at this email.  Specific details about the Festival will be conveyed once all information is received from USA Hockey.

Registration deadline for the Festival is Friday, December 23rd, 2022.  MN Special Hockey will not allow for registrations after this date. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

3. Hockey Day Lakeville
MN Special Hockey has been invited to skate at Hockey Day Lakeville on Saturday, January 14, 2023.  This is a great opportunity to showcase the MN Special Hockey program and it will be a lot of fun!

MN Special Hockey will skate on Saturday, January 14th (time TBD) at Ames Arena, 19900 Ipava Avenue, Lakeville.  If you register, please commit to attending.   Please use this link to register:  Welcome | Lakeville Hockey Day - 2023 | Minnesota Special Hockey (sportngin.com)

More information (time of the game, off-ice events and fun activities, etc.) will be provided very soon.

4. Need Volunteers

The New Hope team is looking for some volunteer help.  They have a new young player that requires 1-on-1 attention and the team doesn't have anyone to work with this player.  If you can help, please contact Coach Dana Thiede at dthiede@kare11.com  He would greatly appreciate your help!

5. MSH Apparel

MSH has some “extra” apparel that is for sale.  This is also the place to purchase replacement socks.  The Strauss apparel sale will happen again in January.  This sale has limited items and sizes, but is quality apparel.

See this site for more information:  https://minnesota-special-hockey.square.site/

6. Jerseys

The first jersey order is in, just in time for our first games!  Any player that indicated they needed a jersey in their registration AND registered before October 1st has a jersey ready for wear.  The MSH jersey coordinator is working with the team managers to get them distributed.  MSH does not know a timeframe on the delivery of the next batch of jerseys.

A player’s jersey is strictly for a player and should not be worn by anyone else.  A jersey should not have signatures, added logos or anything of the sort.  Keep it looking brand new, alterations are not allowed!

If you are a returning player not receiving new jerseys, this is a great time to freshen up your jerseys and gear.  Players must routinely wash jerseys and clean equipment.  Make sure the white jerseys stay looking white, and try to air out your gear to keep it staying fresher between skates.  Here is some good information on how to clean hockey gear:  Hockey Equipment Resource Center - How to Clean Hockey Equipment at Home | Pure Hockey
