Congratulations to Jackson Phillips

MN Special Hockey is delighted to announce the recipient of this year's annual Volunteer Scholarship, Jackson Phillips! Jackson has been a steadfast volunteer with our Plymouth team for three seasons and is now a freshman at Wake Forest. Jackson hopes to attend medical school in the future and study psychiatry, a decision in part influenced by his time with Special Hockey.

Jackson has been an important part of the Plymouth team, including running practices on his own during the pandemic when the coaches were out sick. "The players didn't miss a beat even with the change in leadership for the event - a huge win for players who thrive on consistency," says team manager Jennifer Martin. "Jackson has a calm, quiet influence and he's got a great rapport with the players on our team, from elementary aged to those adult players who are older than he is - he works well with all of our players." Martin added, "In short, he's a gem and we're so thankful for his dedication to our team throughout his high school career!"

Plymouth coach Kevin Marsherall adds, "At the end of every practice, he is the one who always picks up all the pucks and then goes in the locker room to say goodbye to the players. Jackson has been a true asset to the team and to Minnesota Special Hockey."

About his time as a Special Hockey volunteer, Jackson says, "I became a better person in nearly every way and am so much happier for it. My experience with the organization has been nothing but amazing and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my Sundays."

Thank you to all of our incredible volunteers and those who nominated volunteers for the scholarship this year. We had an impressive pool of candidates and it was a tough choice! Minnesota Special Hockey appreciates the dedication and commitment of our wonderful volunteers, week in and week out!
