Below is a lot of information about the Hendrickson Hockey Festival.  Please read it all!  This is an amazing end of our season event of hockey and socializing, hopefully someday MN Special Hockey will have %100 participation!

There are still hotel rooms available in the area, many below $100 per night.  They are listed on the Hendrickson Festival site.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

In order to make the Festival games even more fun, we are looking for volunteers for all of our games.  Please consider signing up to help your team and others!  We want to make the game experience as exciting as possible!

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Greeter/Locker Room Coordinator - Arrive at the rink early (45 minutes to an hour before).  Make sure you know what locker rooms are available for our players.  They do not need to be separated by team.  We will need a room designated for females.  Put signs (provided) on the doors.
  • Announcer - Announce plays made by as many players as possible.  Rosters will be provided.  Make things up to make it interesting.  Be outgoing and have fun with it!
  • Music - Bring your music player.  There should be a connection available to make it work, presumably a standard audio cable.  Get there early enough to test things out, and to get help if it is not working.
  • On-Ice Help - Some teams might need some additional on-ice help.  This all depends on the teams playing.  Teams also need help in the locker rooms getting players ready and skates tied.

Please click on this link to access the sign-up spreadsheet:   https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sc9TnMc48E5LCwWh28d5Uz3hLX3RdmdlzpiImBaVnKE/edit?usp=sharing.  If you are trying to edit this on your phone you will need to use the Google Sheets App.  Please only edit the volunteer sign up fields and fill in your first and last name, phone number and email address.  You are not limited to one game.  Please sign up for as many as you can!

SWAG and COOL STUFF

Players that attend the festival should stop at the Festival Check in table to pick up their giveaway from the Foundation.  Give them your name and they will check you off the list.  Please take only one bag per attending athlete!!!

EXTRA EVENTS:

The Hendrickson Foundation invited the USA Special Hockey team to the festival for some practice time.  Our own Kayla Murray has been selected to play on this team!  For more information on her see this article on our site:  https://www.mnspecialhockey.org/news_article/show/1065169.  On Saturday at 2:15 on Rink #3 one of their practice hours is going to be used for a  scrimmage with our players.  Players will be selected from the ones stating they are interested, contact Jane Cashin at jocashin@comcast.net (include player name and local team).  You must send the email by Saturday, February 15th.  Put "USA Special Team Skate" in the subject line.  Players will be notified by a few days before the festival.

The Hendrickson Foundation has also invited a group of skaters from Hudson.  This group is just getting going with Special Hockey and would benefit from seeing some of our players on the ice.  This practice/scrimmage will be on Saturday at 11:45 on Rink 2.  This time conflicts with many of our games, but is the best we could do.  If you are interested in skating with the Hudson team, email Jane Cashin at jocashin@comcast.net  (include player name and local team).  You must send the email by Saturday, February 15th.  Put "Hudson Special Team Skate" in the subject line.

The Celebrity Game is always very fun to watch!  It starts at 5:00 on Saturday on Rink #4.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not attempt to enter the ice after the game for pictures and autographs!  A few people did this last year, the foundation was not expecting this invasion.  It has a very negative effect on the event, it inconveniences the celebrities, was not fair to others that followed the rules, and not safe for people to be walking on the ice (huge liability issue).  Please represent MSH well and be respectful to ALL!

The Festival Reception is from Saturday from 6:00 - 10:00 at the Sports Expo Center.  There will be food provided for players, volunteers and their immediate family members.  Drink tickets are usually provided in the giveaway Swag stuff.  The event has a large silent auction and are still collecting items.  If you have anything you would like to donate, please contact Jane Cashin at jocashin@comcast.net.  The past receptions had celebrity guests, photo booths, music, games and great socializing.  Don't miss this very fun event!
